HISTORY The recorded history of the Manoir goes back over a thousand years to 920 when a Celtic chieftain built a fortress on the site. At the time this was surrounded by the vast forest of Brocéliande, legendary home of King Arthur, Merlin and the Knights of the Round Table; all that remains of the original forest, the Forest of Paimpont, is some 40 minutes away and still much visited by tourists. Descendants of the chieftain built the present house around 1600 and continued to live here until 1854. More recently in the 1960’s the Manoir was converted into a boys’ school, with the west wing and the stable block being converted into dormitories, and the addition of two prefabricated buildings providing classroom accommodation. In 1992 the property was purchased by a French family, who converted the Manoir into gîte and chambres d’hôte accommodation. The current owners have recently renovated and upgraded all the gîte accommodation, including the addition of the Leisure Complex.
